Nejraději by všem zakázal nakupovat, aby měl klid a mohl pořádně zaměřit. Uspořádání v policích se neustále vertikálně a horizontálně měnilo. Blbost! Tak to přece minule nebylo…

A PROMISING COMPOSITION

He thought the announcement asking customers on the moving walkways not to climb into their shopping trolleys was a bit ridiculous, even though he’d tried to do it himself. Apparently there were slots there and it couldn’t be done… He was standing by the tablecloth racks, anxiously trying to find the right angle. A week ago he’d found it quite quickly, but it seemed that now was the wrong time. Five o’clock in the afternoon and the shop was full of people, so there was always someone messing it up. The goods on the shelves were in constant motion. Ideally he’d have ordered everyone to stop shopping so he could aim properly without any interruptions. The arrangement on the shelves was constantly changing, vertically and horizontally. Promising compositions would suddenly appear and just as quickly disappear. He had to stop himself from asking the woman in the red blouse to leave the pack of butter where it was and buy one from the next row. He was bending forwards with a serious look on his face, like a tennis player waiting for his opponent’s serve, trying to see which boxes fitted. People mistook him for an employee; all that was missing was the coat. He couldn’t have cared less. He kept wondering what he could do. How about kicking something, or giving it a shove? Perhaps something would happen. How stupid! It wasn’t like this last time…
